Raspberry Pi Model A already in production
Raspberry Pi Foundation has just started producing cheaper model A (25 $) in the Sony-jevi Pencoedu factory in Wales. It is the same pad as the more expensive ($ 32) model B, but no ethernet connector, with only one USB konktorjem October forecast and free upgrade to 512MB of memory.
Its main advantage, besides the price of course, will be one-half lower energy consumption, since the model A according to internal tests draws 143mA at full load (ARM stress test), compared with the B's 352mA. Most of the savings comes at the expense of the removed Ethernet interface. Account primarily for use on local machines, robotics, home automation, or. for a very cheap home media center.
Release date is not quite certain.
Sales of more expensive model is run in line with expectations - close to a million copies this year - 429,000 through a distributor Farnell, and a little less via RS Components.
